Adventures in Sterling

Petting ZooIf you have small children and you have not discovered Davis Farmland Petting Zoo, you are in for a day of pure kid FUN.  You can’t even go to the Petting Zoo unless you are accompanied by a child.    Go beg, borrow, or rent a small child and be prepared to enjoy children discovering and interacting with special animals.

The Davis family has owned the farm for many years, and when their cows became sick, they began collecting unique and endangered species.    They welcomed the children and their parents for not only an educational experience, but also a fun family adventure.

Where else can kids collect eggs from all kinds of chickens, learn to milk a goat, feed the Llama at the Petting Zoobaby goats, llamas, baby sheep, pigs, and Kate the cow, visit the “village” and shop for food to cook, become the local veterinarian and cure the “sick” animals, play in the water park, and on and on.  Pony rides and hayrides through the fields help the children understand the family relationship with the animals and the farm.

Several years ago my granddaughter and her friend watched two baby goals being born in the field, and the staff allowed them to name the babies.  Each year Josie comes back to Farmland to see how “Diamond” is doing.

If you have not discovered this local treasure, make sure you bring the children this summer.  Davis Farmland is open from April through October, and they have great events every weekend.
